Supporting System-Impacted Families
Having an incarcerated parent can be a significant challenge for families, and especially for children. In this symposium, we will hear from researchers, social and mental health service providers, and legal experts as they discuss the impact on families when a loved one is incarcerated. We will explore non-traditional and transformative opportunities for conflict resolution for families with incarcerated or formerly incarcerated family members.

With so many children adversely impacted, this symposium will seek to explore, examine, and educate the public, social service providers, mental health providers, and legal services providers on the ways in which each of these communities can cohesively and collaboratively work together to center and support children and families affected by parental incarceration.

Various panels will share research and current practices on how to improve outcomes for children and their parents. We'll explore efforts by community based organizations and law enforcement agencies to better serve these families, and provide general information about family law issues affecting system-impacted individuals and their families.
